What inspired you to choose a career in social work / professional counseling?
I was inspired to pursue a career in social work because of my own experiences and the support I needed during challenging times. I realized how vital it is for children and teens to have a safe person and space where they can receive the mental health support they need. Social work stood out to me because of its diverse opportunities and the ability to make a meaningful impact in various areas. For me, social work isn't just a profession—it's a calling, and I feel deeply committed to helping others in this field.
Can you describe any therapeutic modalities or techniques you use in clinical practice?
In my clinical practice, I focus on being interactive and engaging with clients through creative methods such as play therapy and art therapy. These techniques are particularly effective for children and teens, as they allow them to explore and express their feelings in a safe and imaginative way. I also work from a trauma-informed perspective, integrating Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) to address a variety of mental health concerns.
In addition to these approaches, I strongly emphasize building coping skills and tools that promote resilience and positive growth. I help clients develop practical strategies for managing stress, regulating emotions, and navigating challenges. By equipping them with these skills, I aim to empower clients to handle life's difficulties more effectively and foster their overall well-being. My goal is to support clients in not only addressing their current issues but also in building a foundation for long-term emotional strength and personal development.
How would you describe your approach in practice?
My approach in practice is centered around being soft-spoken, empathetic, and compassionate. I believe that clients are the leaders of their own therapy journey, and I’m here to support and guide them when needed! I take a mindfulness approach, helping clients stay present while also exploring how their past experiences influence their current and future behaviors. By providing a safe and non-judgmental space, I encourage clients to open up at their own pace, allowing for meaningful and lasting change
What’s a hobby or interest you enjoy outside of work?
Outside of work, I really enjoy reading, especially fiction and self-development books. I find it relaxing and a great way to unwind. I also love walking on the beach, which helps me clear my mind and stay active. Spending quality time with my family is very important to me, and it brings me a lot of joy. And, of course, I indulge in a little retail therapy now and then—it's a fun way to treat myself and practice self-care! .
Do you have a favorite book, movie, song or quote that inspires you?
“When you can't find the sunshine, be the sunshine”.
I've always loved this quote for its underlying message that when you're facing difficult times or feeling down, instead of waiting for external circumstances to improve, you can take the initiative to bring positivity and light into your own life and the lives of others. It reflects a message of resilience and self-empowerment. It also implies that by being kind and supportive to others, you can create a positive ripple effect. Sometimes, helping others and spreading kindness can also enhance your own well-being.
